When Shy Meets Rush

Who's shy?

When you come see us at the clinic, that smiley face that greets you would be Emily’s. She brings a shy but happy energy that our Collie mix Scooby tries hard to instill in us.

Behind the bashfulness lies the mastermind of all things creative in our buy-one-get-one-free team. Emily spends much time conjuring up the fancy imagery as well as fiddling with the technical part of our work.

Emily and I met many moons ago working for the first Hollywood-styled Haunted House in Taipei. Since the seasonal gig quickly came to an end, the coworker-ship blossomed into a lifelong partnership. As with most things in our lives, Emily handles all the doodling while I, Julia do the scribbling. My story next door/below (depending on your device).

What's the rush?

What brought me to Chinese medicine was the simple yet elegant concept of balance, that sweet spot between yin and yang.

That balance was what I had lacked in my younger years of commuting from Taipei to New York, Beijing and many cities in between as a journalist and documentary filmmaker. I enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life to help tell their stories. I trekked the Tibetan plateu with monks who were recognized as reincarnates of many lifetimes, hung out with the first all-female rockers from China and worked for dot-coms that are now dot-gones.

That richness of experience took a physical toll. I suffered from constant headaches and a variety of digestive and gynecological ailments that stemmed ultimately from a terrible lifestyle. Then experiencing Chinese medicine first-hand as well as subsequent turn of events including meeting a few amputee children injured in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake prompted me to make a career change.
